THE CENTER FOR CONTEMPORARY DANCE PRESENTS:
Patelworks Dance Theater
in
"The
Cosmic Dance"
August 23, 2008
Saturday 4:00pm
Accompanied by live music and vocals,
The Cosmic Dance combines
classical Indian movement (Bharatnatyam and Kuchipudi) with contemporary
dance to vivify and celebrate the ancient
Indian symbol of the Dancing Shiva, Nataraj, which is a cultural
representation of divine transformation. Patelworks Dance
Theater uses The Cosmic Dance
to explore the deep significance of the image
Nataraj, a symbol which has been alive
for six thousand years. The symbol at once represents the manifestation
of primal rhythmic energy; protection and peace; destruction of
ignorance and illusion; and the opening of Nataraj’s third eye—the
gateway to wisdom. Partial proceeds from The Cosmic Dance
will be donated to The Center’s
SEE(k)ING Project, an arts enrichment program that blends
creative writing and dance to teach underprivileged children skills in
artistic expression, critical thinking and collaboration.

in Partnership with Hope CommUnity Center
Presents:
SEE(k)ING
August 24, 2008
Sunday 2:00pm
SEE(k)ING
is a heartfelt dance performance featuring youth participants in
The
Center’s
community arts enrichment project of the same name. The SEE(k)ING
Project blends creative writing and dance to teach children from
public schools and low-income families skills in artistic expression,
self-confidence, critical thinking and collaboration. Over the course
of three months, participants bring to life writings from their journals
through dances that express their personal experiences. The current
performance of SEE(k)ING involves the children of Hope CommUnity
Center (www.offm.org),
a resource center for children of migrant workers. All proceeds from
this performance support The
Center’s SEE(k)ING program, so that it may be brought to
new youth populations. Join us for this inspiring and meaningful
performance that is keeping arts education alive and well in Central
Florida!
